Cellular Health First: Why Your Supplements Aren't Working — Jessica Kane Berman, BodyBio (Ep 127)
About this episode
Wellness advice can make it feel like there is always one more thing you should be taking. Electrolytes for hydration. NAD for longevity. Hormone support for perimenopause. Probiotics for gut health. But when you are already doing the things and still feel tired, foggy, bloated, inflamed, hormonally off, or like your body is not bouncing back the way it used to, it brings up the question most people are quietly asking: Why is none of this working the way I thought it would?
In this episode of The Well Drop, I sit down with Jessica Kane Berman of BodyBio to unpack that question through the lens of cellular health. We talk about why your cell membranes, mitochondria, minerals, gut lining, fatty acids, and liver support may affect how your body responds to everything else you are doing, from hormone support and electrolytes to NAD, gut health, detox, and longevity tools.
Jessica Kane Berman is the Chief Brand Officer and co-owner of BodyBio, a third-generation family business focused on science-backed supplements that support health at the cellular level. With a background in brand building, wellness, and family business, Jess helps make complex cellular health science easier to understand so you can make more informed decisions about what you put in your body.
What’s Discussed:
(05:35) Why cellular health matters for energy, resilience, prevention, and longevity.
(08:01) Why quick fixes may not work if your cells need support first.
(11:21) How cellular health connects to perimenopause, menopause, and hormone processing.
(14:02) What to look for in electrolytes and why liquid minerals may matter.
(20:13) What PC is and why cell membranes matter for toxins, mitochondria, and aging.
(22:46) Why NAD and other longevity tools may not work well if your cell membranes are damaged.
(31:30) How to choose better supplements in a crowded wellness space.
Listen to this episode of The Well Drop to understand why your supplements may not be giving you the results you expected, how cellular health affects energy, hormones, gut health, and longevity, and what to look at before adding another wellness trend to your routine.

[SPEAKER_02]: Get ready for an eye-opening conversation that will change how you think about health from the inside out. [SPEAKER_02]: Jess, welcome to The Wild Drop. [SPEAKER_02]: Excited to dive in. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, me too. [SPEAKER_02]: So body bio has been around for very long time. [SPEAKER_03]: It has. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so it was actually started originally as a company called Eli, their first supplement we weighed is our electrolyte concentrate same supplement.
[SPEAKER_03]: We have to this day was originally made in the 1980s. [SPEAKER_03]: We think it was like 1986. [SPEAKER_02]: Wow. [SPEAKER_03]: I grandfather was a marathon runner and there were no electrolytes supplements back then. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I like all the matters that we now have. [SPEAKER_03]: There was nothing. [SPEAKER_03]: And so he he was having these horrible light cramps while running and. [SPEAKER_03]: sort out to do something about it and made some Eli in his bathtub and started giving it out was marathon buddies.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's how the company started. [SPEAKER_03]: It actually developed into blood testing. [SPEAKER_03]: You used to be able to go into a lab core, asked for a bloody biotesque pay a hundred bucks and get this whole test done. [SPEAKER_03]: Can you imagine? [SPEAKER_02]: No. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I love it. [SPEAKER_03]: In the world of all the functional tests that we have now that was in the 90s and the 1998 they formally incorporated body bio and started working on the products PC like our own formulation of PC really took about four years for him to do R&D and really figure out and I think it launched around 2002.
[SPEAKER_02]: Wow and what is so what is the difference with the war products like what is it that cellular function is so. [SPEAKER_02]: such a game changer compared to some of their so much stuff out there in the market. [SPEAKER_02]: And I feel like you guys really stand out in terms of focusing on the cellular level. [SPEAKER_02]: Can you explain what that even means to somebody who's like, why do I care? [SPEAKER_02]: Sure. [SPEAKER_03]: I think at the simplest way of looking at it. [SPEAKER_03]: Where does disease occur?
[SPEAKER_03]: Disease is what kills us all. [SPEAKER_03]: Disease occurs in ourselves. [SPEAKER_03]: And so if you can make yourselves more resilient and more healthy throughout life, you in turn will live a longer, more healthier life. [SPEAKER_03]: And so it's the root of all root causes and we often overthink it because it's so esoteric. [SPEAKER_03]: So we think about our gut bacteria in our microbiome. [SPEAKER_03]: It's very easy to take a probiotic after you take a course of antibiotics and think that you're replenishing that bacteria.
[SPEAKER_03]: We don't often immediately think, I'm fatigued. [SPEAKER_03]: I have brain fog. [SPEAKER_03]: I am having a hard time getting out of bed. [SPEAKER_03]: I am having a really hard time postpartum recovering from childbirth. [SPEAKER_03]: I am having a hard time recovering from getting sick all the time, where I am getting sick all the time, where mold exposure is changed my life, where some other people, it's fine. [SPEAKER_03]: These things are occurring and affecting us deeply on the cellular level.
[SPEAKER_03]: and they are damaging ourselves in our mitochondria. [SPEAKER_03]: And so to ignore cellular health is to ignore longevity, prevention, health in general. [SPEAKER_03]: And so we're really trying to bring something that is quite difficult and esoteric to understand to the mainstream by saying, sure, and it is great for longevity. [SPEAKER_03]: But if your cells are messed up and your cell membranes are compromised, it's not going to help you. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that's I love getting to the root cause as of things.
[SPEAKER_02]: Usually they are overlooked, like I always think of something from a cellular level, it's sort of your, the charge on your phone, like your battery charge. [SPEAKER_02]: So do you have a full charge or you three quarters halfway, are you at 10% like where is your battery charge? [SPEAKER_02]: And that's how I think about how ourselves are functioning for some reason. [SPEAKER_02]: This has been gloss over when you sort of forgot to like think about the cellular level. [SPEAKER_02]: I guess so, but it's so simple.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's kind of like, well, why wouldn't we just focus on that first, and if you can't kind of like fully charge your battery, then maybe like those other things that are bothering you, they'll either kind of like go away or be minimized. [SPEAKER_03]: That's what I've seen time and time again and people people. [SPEAKER_03]: They want to take up, they want to bandate, right? [SPEAKER_03]: They want to pill, they want to know Zempick, they want something that's just going to fix everything in their life.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm sitting here going like, but wait, I actually know what does. [SPEAKER_03]: And you see, it was so many different people. [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like I get text all the time from people. [SPEAKER_03]: Like, oh, it was just diagnosed with CBO. [SPEAKER_03]: Like, CBO's one of those things like, can you just tell me what to take for CBO? [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm like, Thank you so much. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no. [SPEAKER_03]: I can.
[SPEAKER_03]: There's so many things, but what I can tell you is when you really start to address your health at the cellular level, and I didn't always do it, so I can tell you kind of about my health journey, but when you do, what you notice is all those other things start to just go away. [SPEAKER_03]: Those things that you want to thought you were going to be dealing with forever, just start to go away. [SPEAKER_03]: I once could never eat food without taking a HCL supplement. [SPEAKER_03]: I just couldn't make enough of my stomach, probably from stress levels, for years of not eating the right things.
[SPEAKER_03]: I thought I would forever have to take an HCL. [SPEAKER_03]: I haven't taken one in years. [SPEAKER_03]: when did you make the switch? [SPEAKER_02]: Like what was your moment of silence? [SPEAKER_03]: I think it was really, so I post, I had a COVID diagnosis in August 2020. [SPEAKER_03]: And after that, I got subacute viral thyroiditis. [SPEAKER_03]: I had a thyroid storm essentially, where I went, [SPEAKER_03]: hyperthyroid and hypothyroid. [SPEAKER_03]: And so I decided to see a friend of mine, Dr. Bruce Hoffman, and we did a lot of work together, tons of functional testing and things.
[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of trauma work. [SPEAKER_03]: I worked with Dr. Mark Wollen, who wrote a wonderful book called It's In Start With You on Healing and Cestral Trauma. [SPEAKER_03]: I worked on figuring out why I was so type A, why I was so masculine, why I was heading, you know, being this this personality, how that developed. [SPEAKER_03]: with the help of Bruce really working on the foundation. [SPEAKER_03]: So even though I had my grandfather there to tell me what to take, he was a biochemist.
[SPEAKER_03]: He couldn't simplify it enough for me. [SPEAKER_03]: Where's this doctor came along and said, you're going to start your day with taking these. [SPEAKER_03]: You're going to take PC and balance oil daily. [SPEAKER_03]: You're going to take beauty daily. [SPEAKER_03]: You're going to take tight cut night. [SPEAKER_03]: Like, please almost glue to thigh on. [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe a few other things. [SPEAKER_03]: We're going to get some liver support in. [SPEAKER_03]: We're going to ground.
[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to get in the sun. [SPEAKER_03]: We're going to do all these things. [SPEAKER_03]: And it really changed my life when I think back. [SPEAKER_03]: Like that was just a huge turning point in my health when I really started to take it seriously and like drink the cool aid of actually what my grandfather had been telling me for many, many years. [SPEAKER_02]: I appreciate it. [SPEAKER_02]: I guess from a different, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, one more younger able to probably just if you're healthy, you can kind of just function and like keep going.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I was born. [SPEAKER_02]: not as healthy. [SPEAKER_02]: So I've always had to kind of do the work to keep myself up with everyone else, but it's funny now, especially for women, you know, in your, they always say what you did, if winter in your 40s, what you did in your 20s and 30s, it may not work. [SPEAKER_02]: Like everything kind of changes in your 40s. [SPEAKER_02]: And knowingly, so it's almost like if you've never done anything before, these type of products, which I want to dive into, will help support you at the cellular level as
[SPEAKER_03]: And we often get this question when it comes to hormonal health. [SPEAKER_03]: What do I take for parry menopause? [SPEAKER_03]: What do I take for menopause? [SPEAKER_03]: I just want to throw the word parry menopause out. [SPEAKER_03]: It's such a good word in my house at the moment. [SPEAKER_03]: It's what you're marketing term. [SPEAKER_03]: Like we think the experiencing parry menopause. [SPEAKER_03]: Right, when we are truly healthy, we shouldn't be experiencing things you should just try to fly through menopause.
[SPEAKER_03]: The problem is we live in a world that just is working against us, right? [SPEAKER_03]: And it's a struggle. [SPEAKER_03]: It's disrupting our health even when we do all the right things. [SPEAKER_03]: And so there's zero guilt to the people trying to do all the right things, but feeling like they're swimming an uphill battle when it comes to hormone regulation, but I do think there's such an important part of the hormone conversation, which is when you are are flooding the body with these healthy fats and bioactive lipids and you are taking care of yourselves and your cell memory, your cells are communicating better, your liver cells are communicating better, your bile cells, all of these things throughout the body.
[SPEAKER_03]: and you're processing your hormones more efficiently. [SPEAKER_03]: And that's a really important piece that people are missing when it comes to hormone health. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I think even prior to the hormone shifting, I think it all starts in our liver and I've been like struggling with I was diagnosed with a sluggish liver in India last year and I was like, oh, and like that was a moment like everything connected for me. [SPEAKER_02]: It was like, oh my god, from our stress, like your liver performs over 500 functions.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so once that might get clogged for whatever reason. [SPEAKER_02]: Everything else is sort of like it's dysregulated. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I saw my hormones completely have gotten dysregulated from it And I need to now I'm like turning back the clock of like, all right, I'm both not your fault. [SPEAKER_03]: That's your genetics. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, family history It's where your you know your ancestors are from [SPEAKER_03]: You know, I always, you look at people who can process alcohol really well, and others who completely cannot.
[SPEAKER_03]: Right, and people want to pinpoint histamines and, you know, sulfides and all these types of things, and it's like, no, it's just that you're, you're whirlborn with such different organs and a different backstory to our mitochondrial health and all of these things. [SPEAKER_03]: That some just need more support than others. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And I think just acknowledging that you need that support and finding the right items. [SPEAKER_02]: I love that it started with electrolytes.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's been sort of a big thing for me. [SPEAKER_02]: And I think one of the products that I want to highlight that I love from you guys is can you explain what your product does at the cellular level. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm always about now, like bioavailability. [SPEAKER_02]: I think a lot of people don't think about that when they start thinking something. [SPEAKER_02]: And there's so much marketing out there. [SPEAKER_02]: regarding supplements. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the electrolyte supplements, but I really start focusing on it really for my kids.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then I joke with my husband, like growing up one, we no one carried a water bottle around with them. [SPEAKER_02]: Two, no one really took electrolytes and we all athletes to some extent. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, is this necessary one and two when we're going to choose an electrolyte, which we be looking out for? [SPEAKER_03]: I think drinking, so growing up, we probably drank more tap water than we do now. [SPEAKER_03]: Now we'll know too much to drink tap water, right? [SPEAKER_03]: And when you're using a filtration system, particularly when it's reverse osmosis, you're removing all the good as well as the bad.
[SPEAKER_03]: And so we don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water. [SPEAKER_03]: You need to bring your water to life. [SPEAKER_03]: Water has a life to it. [SPEAKER_03]: It has an electrical charge and it has all these wonderful minerals in it. [SPEAKER_03]: And when we deplete our water of that or when we're drinking water that is just kind of heavily processed bottled plastic water, we're not getting enough of the good. [SPEAKER_03]: And so traditionally, like when we were growing up, you had gatoried and poweried and things like that.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if you've looked at the back of the poweried bottle, [SPEAKER_03]: Like I almost fell over when I saw the ingredients the other day. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yes. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm like it's on it from my kids camp Like can we please swap this out? [SPEAKER_02]: Actually I had it swapped out at school. [SPEAKER_02]: I was apart at the schools Yeah, it was a new school. [SPEAKER_02]: That's very progressive and there was soda there and geteryed and I said I think we're in a little smarter now Yeah, and they looked into it and they switched it without even I knew to have to say a thing I just said come on Yeah, so smart academically [SPEAKER_02]: and advocate for yourself, for your family, for sure.
[SPEAKER_03]: So electrolytes are really simple. [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they're sodium potassium magnesium and they are in our blood. [SPEAKER_03]: They're in our bodies constantly. [SPEAKER_03]: They are, there's a sodium potassium pump on our cell membrane that is responsible for our the all these wonderful processes of what gets into the cell and what stays out of the cell. [SPEAKER_03]: And so they're really important for what I like to say like supercharging ourselves and it's just a [SPEAKER_03]: group of minerals that are really important for muscle function and cellular function and so many functions in the body.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I really rarely drink water without electrolytes. [SPEAKER_03]: I think what's happened is the electrolyte market has just become disgusting. [SPEAKER_03]: So this is, okay, firstly, liquid is the key. [SPEAKER_03]: If your electrolytes or minerals are not liquid, they are not going to be absorbed in the body well. [SPEAKER_03]: So when you see that one, all these pores, like ditch the powders, everyone has a ditch the powders, like ditch the powders, the powders are where the fillers and the the melted deck strings and the things that affect your mouth feel and the fact that it allows it to dissolve and the flavorings like it's all fake.
[SPEAKER_03]: Right. [SPEAKER_02]: All added stuff that's unnecessary, basically. [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_03]: And so with Eli, we really keep it super simple. [SPEAKER_03]: It's salty as hell, doesn't taste good. [SPEAKER_03]: You don't want to drink it directly. [SPEAKER_03]: It's a concentrate, and you put it into your water into your soups, into your smoothies, into your juices, and to whatever. [SPEAKER_03]: My kids, I mean, my son is always laughing. [SPEAKER_03]: He's like, Mom, I just don't regular water, not electrolyte water.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I put like very little in his, just to make sure he's getting a little bit of it. [SPEAKER_03]: And then my daughter loves it. [SPEAKER_03]: My daughter is always like craving it, just in mom to do you put my Eli in my water.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm taking a quick moment to share something with you because the number one question I get asked is, where do I even start? [SPEAKER_01]: Lucky for you, you don't have to figure that out because I already did the work for you. [SPEAKER_01]: And I've built it over the last 10 years. [SPEAKER_01]: It's called The Well Drop Blueprint. [SPEAKER_01]: No prep, no planning, just open your email every morning for 14 days and get one habit, one clear upgrade that tells you exactly what to do that day.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's it. [SPEAKER_01]: Here's your permission slip. [SPEAKER_01]: It's never too early and it's also never too late to start. [SPEAKER_01]: The women doing this right now range from their early 30s to their 80s because building is solid wellness foundation works at every age. [SPEAKER_01]: And the sooner you start, the faster you will feel the difference. [SPEAKER_01]: The reality is women are doing great things but off a rocky foundation. [SPEAKER_01]: The blueprint is your starting point.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's simple. [SPEAKER_01]: It's clear and delivered to your inbox. [SPEAKER_01]: Go to the wilddrop.com right now or click the link in your show notes. [SPEAKER_01]: Open to mouse email. [SPEAKER_01]: It's your starting point to building a wellness foundation that helps make everything else you do work better. [SPEAKER_01]: Upgrade your wellness right now.
[SPEAKER_03]: And is there a difference that you guys have tested from an actual hydration standpoint to know I mean I'd love to be able to like really like go and and test that I think one of the things that's a little frustrating is like the cost. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I'm doing these types of past is is hard I just actually got off. [SPEAKER_03]: My last call was with my clinical team on building out clinical trials and pilot studies and working with other doctors to really prove, but put proof behind a lot of the things that we say.
[SPEAKER_03]: And there's a lot of really exciting stuff happening, but when I tell you, it is expensive, it is incredible. [SPEAKER_03]: We're talking hundreds of thousands of millions of dollars. [SPEAKER_02]: When that's, I think, the been part of the issue in the medical community that a lot of people feel like, oh, I want its science back. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I literally believe that food is medicine, at least when. [SPEAKER_02]: or how our food used to be with healthy soils and that healed me as a child.
[SPEAKER_02]: But if I waited 30 plus years for any clinical study to tell us that food has healing properties, I mean, I would have probably, I would have been a meds this whole time. [SPEAKER_02]: And you're just going to test that. [SPEAKER_03]: There's no food group. [SPEAKER_02]: No one's testing that for that. [SPEAKER_02]: And it's really unfair for smaller companies that are doing amazing work. [SPEAKER_02]: But people feel like they can't be validated
[SPEAKER_02]: even though a lot of them when you're in the know are kind of, you know, half true. [SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, he's like, oh, it's so biased. [SPEAKER_03]: It's very biased. [SPEAKER_02]: So I do think it is, the best is through, you know, you guys have been around. [SPEAKER_02]: I love companies and people who've been doing the work for a very long time. [SPEAKER_02]: You are still around. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's showing that something is working, obviously. [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm sure you have thousands, beyond thousands of clients who can report
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and tens of thousands of doctors, that's the, that's the key for us that makes body by us so unique. [SPEAKER_03]: I think you'd, you'd be hard-pressed to find another supplement company, particularly the new one. [SPEAKER_03]: So let's say, you know, some new company starts, they get funding, they start kicking off with 50 million dollars, they can do these clinical trials, they can do all this. [SPEAKER_03]: It's very difficult to buy the respective doctors, and we have that.
[SPEAKER_03]: And what we have, or a lot of doctors who have used our stuff for a really long time, [SPEAKER_03]: You know, one of the doctors came to me this June and she said, just, you know, I don't know if you're seeing this because you're not a clinician, but I'm testing people's levels of microplastics of pesticides, of herbicides, of heavy metals. [SPEAKER_03]: And I am seeing those levels go down when they take a week consistently. [SPEAKER_03]: And it like a light bolt went off. [SPEAKER_03]: And I thought that's what I want to test.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Like that right there is a lightning test. [SPEAKER_02]: Everything. [SPEAKER_02]: And so what product is helping with that? [SPEAKER_02]: PC. [SPEAKER_02]: a PC. [SPEAKER_02]: And so what is PC? [SPEAKER_03]: PC is really fascinating. [SPEAKER_03]: It's a healthy fat. [SPEAKER_03]: And it's the fat that protects our cells. [SPEAKER_03]: It creates this bubble around our cells, our cell wall, which is called a cell membrane. [SPEAKER_03]: And PC is the healthy fat that helps to keep that bubble intact and protected.
[SPEAKER_03]: So when that bubble is protected, the bad stuff is going to stay outside the cell and not get into the cell. [SPEAKER_03]: When the bubble starts to break down because we don't have enough PC, bad stuff's going to start to get in. [SPEAKER_03]: It gets into your mitochondria and it changes your epigenetics. [SPEAKER_03]: And so that's when you're seeing cell danger response, chronic illness, autoimmune diseases, neurological diseases. [SPEAKER_03]: All of these things activate. [SPEAKER_03]: Well, where the body, the cells are getting into this stiffened heart and state, where they're just all of a sudden reacting to everything.
[SPEAKER_02]: So interesting. [SPEAKER_02]: So we have PC naturally in our body. [SPEAKER_03]: We do. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, tons of it. [SPEAKER_03]: So that's when, you know, some people will say, like, oh, I started taking PC and, you know, it made me break out or it made me have a headache. [SPEAKER_03]: Like, it really depends on your health state. [SPEAKER_03]: Like, if you're living in constant mold exposure, sure, it might give you a little bit of headache for a minute. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like a detox, also, because it's helping us.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I think I know right, that's it. [SPEAKER_03]: Now, what's really interesting is the way that these healthy fats work is when you actually start to take more of them. [SPEAKER_03]: So it's a biological substrate constantly made in the body. [SPEAKER_03]: We're getting it from food, and it's also made in the body. [SPEAKER_03]: So it's not like an essential fatty acid. [SPEAKER_03]: There's only from food. [SPEAKER_03]: So PC is a biological substrate is constantly being made, our ability to synthesize it from food decreases as we age, we're born with a ton of PC when they look at stem cells from and milk chords and babies.
[SPEAKER_03]: you have a ton of PC interest as we age that ratio of swaps and you end up with a ton of sphing a mile and less PC. [SPEAKER_03]: And so if you take it as you're aging, you're putting off that cellular aging and you're increasing your cellular resilience. [SPEAKER_02]: I love that because I think, you know, coming up, I think stem cells, obviously we already know peptides by by regulators, all of those, I think people start [SPEAKER_02]: to think, oh, I'm going to do that because I'm aging rather than focusing on PC actually should be that first step because you're actually managing it from the cellular level or replacing what's exactly the way as you age, which all everybody's talking about NAD right now is like this.
[SPEAKER_03]: NAD. [SPEAKER_02]: This was a talk. [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm like, you take any D with damaged membranes, which we all have, right, unless you're like really mega dosing PC, you have damaged membranes, because where do microplastics and pesticides and all of these things affect us, it damages our membrane, right, and so you have a damaged membrane and then you're taking any D where there are no any D receptor sites on the cell. [SPEAKER_03]: and you're not doing anything. [SPEAKER_03]: It's not doing anything for longevity.
[SPEAKER_03]: When you actually take care of your cell membrane and then you take the NAD, then you're really going to get some longevity benefits. [SPEAKER_03]: But I laugh whenever anybody says to me, oh, I'm injecting NAD daily. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, you're just wasting your money. [SPEAKER_03]: It's gotten flushed right out of your body. [SPEAKER_03]: I like that. [SPEAKER_03]: So everyone we need to do PC first. [SPEAKER_03]: First is so critical. [SPEAKER_03]: Repair your membranes from the damage that our world has done to them.
[SPEAKER_03]: And then start taking all of these, you know, the euro-listen A's and the NAD and all the little [SPEAKER_03]: hacks that you can take to increase energy production. [SPEAKER_02]: But if you have damaged some membranes and damaged mitochondrial membranes, which you do that optimizing, like I think that's not a point is for people to think about, all right, how do I help the foundation and the core of what's happened onto my body? [SPEAKER_02]: And that is at that cellular level. [SPEAKER_02]: And so like you said before, like fill your battery, get it a full charge with your PC.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then once you have that, you can stack onto it, but you may not even need to at first, like, you don't need to take a hundred. [SPEAKER_02]: You might not. [SPEAKER_03]: You might feel really good just starting to take that. [SPEAKER_02]: Right. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, a lot of people do. [SPEAKER_02]: I think a lot of one of the things that actually made me learn about your company was also through gut health. [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like you guys have a lot of, you know, information, what kind of impact.
[SPEAKER_02]: as your different supplements have on improving gut health for people. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: So sticking with PC 80% of the gastric mucosa, this kind of like lining of our GI system is made of fostered ocolyne. [SPEAKER_03]: He's a so it's super critical for gut health. [SPEAKER_03]: The other product that ties really kind of brings in this kind of gut-brain access also works on the cellular level. [SPEAKER_03]: All of our products work on the cellular level is a post-biotic.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's called beauty rate and we are the largest manufacturer of post-biotic beauty rate in the country. [SPEAKER_03]: It's manufactured in our one of our offices in New Jersey. [SPEAKER_03]: It's really interesting post-biotics are essentially the by-product of a healthy microbiome. [SPEAKER_03]: When you are feeding your microbiome, the right resistance starch, which is a type of fiber, and then you have the right bacteria in there to eat up that resistance starch, they produce this really cool molecule called burry.
[SPEAKER_03]: And many of us, particularly I'm sure you know very much about this, having being somebody who dealt with gut issues throughout your life, is it's a really important molecule for driving down inflammation in the gut, but also in terms
[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's very critical in terms of our immune system. [SPEAKER_03]: It's a really fascinating molecule on the surface level, what people see when they start taking buterate is more regular bowel movements. [SPEAKER_03]: So if you're leaning towards constipation or diarrhea, it will actually like fix things up for you. [SPEAKER_02]: And like that didn't think about that. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's really neat. [SPEAKER_03]: Bloding. [SPEAKER_03]: digestion. [SPEAKER_03]: In general, it's really helping to like quench the inflammation.
[SPEAKER_03]: It helps get rid of colon polyps. [SPEAKER_03]: I can't say the disease that it helps with, but it is super potent and it's really being studied for a whole host of reasons ranging from [SPEAKER_03]: chronic fatigue to various different cancers. [SPEAKER_03]: It's a, it's a fascinating supplement. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I've been taking it for years. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think I realized why I was taking it for, there's so many more benefits than I even realized. [SPEAKER_02]: It's crazy.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just think it's really neat. [SPEAKER_02]: I've enough in me. [SPEAKER_03]: We, it was like, it's such a popular supplement. [SPEAKER_03]: I, I barely even have to market to talk about it, because it's, it's a real word of mouth, reductors telling people and then people just saying, I started taking this and changed my life. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, wow. [SPEAKER_03]: that yeah unbelievable. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: What have you seen? [SPEAKER_02]: Do you have any like great like stories you can tell of any of like the doctors that you've worked with or any clients any sort of success stories, it feels like there's so many different, I think you're getting overwhelmed of like, okay, where do I start and like does this pertain to me?
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I think it ranges, right? [SPEAKER_03]: Because babies are taking our products and people who were elderly, I got off the phone recently with somebody who was given an early onset diagnosis of Alzheimer's and it was reversed. [SPEAKER_03]: And he worked with Dale Braddison's team. [SPEAKER_03]: They had them on a high dose of PC. [SPEAKER_03]: He called me, you know, through a friend was introduced to me. [SPEAKER_03]: But I just want to let you know that my dad is going to be a forever client of yours because it changed the life.
[SPEAKER_03]: when his doctor put him on this. [SPEAKER_03]: And that was so rewarding. [SPEAKER_03]: I've heard stories of children who could not speak, who start to take PC and can speak, particularly within the autism community. [SPEAKER_03]: You can see those reviews and you see them from all over the world, interestingly enough, our products are very, very popular in Turkey. [SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's because a handful of autism doctors are working with the products and seeing so many successes.
[SPEAKER_03]: And that's pretty incredible. [SPEAKER_03]: For me personally, the ways that it's really changed my life are healing PCOS, that was, well, I take it back to my early 20s, healed my gut issues, I had, you know, IBD, IBS diagnosis, I was on Nexium, Prylasac, all those different, and I said things like that and couldn't anything, my grandfather's like, what are you doing? [SPEAKER_03]: Why didn't you come talk to me first? [SPEAKER_03]: Before going on all this and that's really when I started taking my health so seriously because it was such a simple fix that he gave me I've like take butary take PC and take Betin hydrochloride and you're gonna be fine, and I was.
[SPEAKER_03]: And fast forward to my like early 30s from me personally I was told I was gonna be infertile. [SPEAKER_03]: I'd probably sister goveries no regular periods [SPEAKER_03]: I made a couple of tweaks, dietary tweaks. [SPEAKER_03]: I really took my health seriously. [SPEAKER_03]: It was taking supplements and I have three beautiful healthy babies that I had no problem getting pregnant with. [SPEAKER_02]: So, and you contribute that to PC? [SPEAKER_03]: I contribute the health of my metabolism and the PCOS to, I would say, it's a combo of buterate PC imbalance oil.
[SPEAKER_03]: I call that our foundational trio and I think those are three products that everybody should be on. [SPEAKER_02]: And what's the balance of oil? [SPEAKER_03]: Balance oil is essential fatty acids. [SPEAKER_03]: We have kind of taken this view of seed oils. [SPEAKER_03]: And then like, oh, seed oils are the devil. [SPEAKER_03]: And food is thy medicine and seeds are incredibly nutrient dense and incredibly important for our health. [SPEAKER_03]: And so balance oils are very carefully treated cold pressed organic oil that comes from flaxseed and safflower and provides us with those parent essential fatty acids that we don't make them endogously in the body.
[SPEAKER_03]: You have to get them from our diet and they're critically important for our cellular health. [SPEAKER_03]: So in our cell membrane, you have phospholipids, but you also have essential fatty acids. [SPEAKER_03]: And I like to say, [SPEAKER_03]: essential fatty acids prevent our cells from looking like raisins and they make our cells look like really plump grapes. [SPEAKER_02]: I love that because it is true like in at least from an Ayurvedic standpoint they do say especially in Perry menopause to have flax seed.
[SPEAKER_02]: And what was the second one in the product? [SPEAKER_02]: Safflower sunflower. [SPEAKER_02]: So sunflower seeds are not going to be recommended. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, obviously. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's like seed cycling kind of a different version of seed cycling. [SPEAKER_02]: It's literally seed cycling. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so I actually use the product to seed cycle. [SPEAKER_03]: So I'll do balance oil and then I also eat pumpkin and flax and then second half of my cycle, I switch to EBL.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's unbelievable. [SPEAKER_02]: So for somebody like, can you explain, because I think what you guys do such a great job at is being transparent about the quality of your products for somebody, you know, because of wellness space is so crowded, there's so many trends and misinformation, like when someone's trying to pick a supplement that they're going to add into their routine, [SPEAKER_02]: How should consumers be discerning about what supplements they take like, what should they be looking for?
[SPEAKER_02]: Other certain like labels to know if it's GMP, good manufacturing, you know, processes, third-party tested, sort of what of like your core values that you think help to. [SPEAKER_02]: let the clients know like this product has been like tried true tested. [SPEAKER_02]: The quality is there because there's a lot of deep supplements out there too. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, so hard to people to know, okay, this is this is the right one. [SPEAKER_02]: And why said that they can understand why they're making that choice.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I think there are some companies coming out that are really doing a great job of trying to be more transparent like a ritual for instance obviously ritual takes like their transparency and they're sourcing incredibly important and then there's others which like I look at like a symbiotic and I can tell this is a company just going to a contract manufacturer and taking off some boxes. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: And unfortunately, that goes so far as to like most of the stuff that you're going to find, even in an era one, right, like how can a consumer know to be discerning to say, okay, these are like [SPEAKER_02]: everything, so I'm going to check.
[SPEAKER_02]: And if I don't see them, then this is not the product. [SPEAKER_03]: I think you always want third party tested. [SPEAKER_03]: What third party tested means is that the product is being sent to a third party independent lab. [SPEAKER_03]: And that lab is running an analysis and providing that analysis back to the company. [SPEAKER_03]: An internal company is quality control. [SPEAKER_03]: different sets of norms. [SPEAKER_03]: There are no set norms by which you can decide to set things kind of as your north star.
[SPEAKER_03]: So like our facility is FDA registered, the FDA comes in at random and checks to ensure that all of our third party testing is falling within a specific range, and then we can release the product. [SPEAKER_03]: So a company that are not kind of FDA registered, that's a big flag, absolutely, no way. [SPEAKER_03]: You should be both FDA registered and CGMP, have your good manufacturing process. [SPEAKER_03]: The kind of North Star above that would be NSF certified. [SPEAKER_03]: and NSF certified is even more stringent and a certified for sport you may see with a lot of like thorn I think is really double down on NSF certified for sport.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's very pricey because you have to test every batch. [SPEAKER_03]: We were able to actually afford to do it and we were NSF certified for a long time. [SPEAKER_03]: It's just, it takes a lot of, there's just a lot of money involved in keeping up those things. [SPEAKER_03]: So I don't often go for any of the independent, you know, non GMO verified or organic certified. [SPEAKER_03]: Like, we don't do those because you often have to test every batch and we're making PC batches literally daily.
[SPEAKER_03]: And so that wouldn't necessarily work for us, but it's it's really hard to discern. [SPEAKER_03]: I think if you look at it from like a little bit of a higher level, most supplements are made by what's called a contract manufacturer. [SPEAKER_03]: So very large companies. [SPEAKER_03]: where they might be at a show, let's say, the biggest one is supply side-west. [SPEAKER_03]: It's in Las Vegas every year. [SPEAKER_03]: And these big international corporations, a lot in China, a lot in India.
[SPEAKER_03]: You basically go up and say, I want to order X, Y, and Z, and you can come out with a supplement line. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: They do the quality control rates bad. [SPEAKER_03]: No. [SPEAKER_03]: And the other thing that's put most people to realize is that contract manufacturer takes on the quality control. [SPEAKER_03]: in everything. [SPEAKER_03]: We shouldn't like all of it. [SPEAKER_03]: So the the brand, let's say, take like a Courtney Kardashian lemme. [SPEAKER_03]: They're just a marketing machine.
[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_03]: It's a business. [SPEAKER_03]: They're not making anything. [SPEAKER_03]: No. [SPEAKER_03]: And there's a handful of brands that actually manufacture and sell supplements. [SPEAKER_03]: And that's not to say, like, there are some larger [SPEAKER_03]: there are some larger companies that are doing it right. [SPEAKER_03]: Like you have manufacturers like all the atrium brands. [SPEAKER_03]: So it's now owned by, I think they sold to an Indian conglomerate but it was owned by Nestle and it was curing capsulations, Douglas Lives, Genastra, that kind of whole halo.
[SPEAKER_03]: Under there, like they probably have great quality control and great manufacturing processes. [SPEAKER_03]: Then it comes down to raw materials and trusting that people are not skimping on the raw materials and really considering what's best for your health. [SPEAKER_03]: What I had found is when things change is when, like, private equity gets involved and money gets involved. [SPEAKER_03]: And I would say probably stay away from a supplement brand that is private equity owned. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that's good.
[SPEAKER_02]: Do your research. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that's the main point. [SPEAKER_02]: You need to do your research because can take some stuff and it may not even do anything for you. [SPEAKER_02]: So like you don't want to waste your money. [SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to waste your time taking things that isn't going to even make a difference for your body. [SPEAKER_02]: So do a little bit research. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that's super helpful for people. [SPEAKER_03]: You know what I always tell people like there's a there's another company that's like a bigger version of body bio by great quality control Family bone to operate and then that's now foods and I guess I bet you would have never guessed that to not wait self-improvement [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we're gonna even get that, don't even know.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a son. [SPEAKER_03]: Oh. [SPEAKER_03]: Just make sure you're buying it directly from the United States. [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_02]: You need to make sure you're buying directive. [SPEAKER_02]: You're buying an Amazon. [SPEAKER_02]: So many people love to buy an Amazon. [SPEAKER_02]: So even if they're buying body bio, like just double check, you're clicking their store. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_03]: The orange is a great one. [SPEAKER_03]: Now food is great. [SPEAKER_03]: I'm trying to think of like other.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there are some great ones, but you just have to I think people don't even think to like look and read the body. [SPEAKER_02]: We need to start reading labels again. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that's like the point I really want to get across is like look at what you're putting in your body and just do a check. [SPEAKER_02]: And I've got listening to this episode. [SPEAKER_02]: I think you have so much more information than you probably did. [SPEAKER_02]: Just [SPEAKER_02]: No, and now we're going to power yourself with exactly empower yourself with information.
[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much to close out this amazing conversation. [SPEAKER_02]: What is a one drop around this wisdom you love to leave our listeners with today? [SPEAKER_03]: I am going to say one of my favorite health acts that I think is so underrated is put your teacher socks off, take your shoes off, put your feet in the ground and stand in the sun. [SPEAKER_03]: Grabbing it back, that charges yourselves, it's free and it is just my favorite. [SPEAKER_03]: When I'm feeling hazy and my brain is fogged and I have kids waking up in the middle of the night we've been battling the flow and all the things when I just go out there I'm looking out my window right now because that's what I'm going to do in between calls and it just feels so good.
[SPEAKER_02]: I love that I actually when I take the kids to school sometimes I'll not wear shoes and the kids always tell them are you grounding I like yes like when are we ever not in our shoes I think it's such a good. [SPEAKER_02]: tip because most of us are always in our shoes. [SPEAKER_02]: We actually need to take them off and get in the grass, get in the sand, even just be on the cement wherever you are. [SPEAKER_02]: I know it's hard sometimes in urban environments, but there's always a park just there's that it's big enough.
[SPEAKER_01]: Five minutes. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're human. [SPEAKER_03]: Again, the sign. [SPEAKER_03]: Don't fear. [SPEAKER_03]: Don't fear the sign. [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you, Jess. [SPEAKER_02]: Everyone, where can they find your products online? [SPEAKER_03]: Online, bodybuild.com in the UK, bodybuild.co.uk and
[SPEAKER_02]: Perfect, we will put it in the show notes. [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much for being with us. [SPEAKER_02]: And don't forget to subscribe. [SPEAKER_02]: And like the episode, we'll help us to reach more people to help empower you all to take charge of your wellness.
